McCarty named advising and retention specialist for OHIO Zanesville

By working closely with faculty and students, Katie McCarty ensures that students have the resources required to be successful in their education.

She accomplishes this by meeting with students to examine programs and the courses needed to obtain their degrees, as an academic advisor. McCarty also encourages students who have encountered challenges in their academics and assists in getting them back on track.

“My favorite part of my position is seeing the excitement of a new student after we have scheduled their classes and discussed their plans,” McCarty said.

McCarty’s number one goal is to see every student succeed and reach their full potential and ambitions. In her former position at Scholarship Central Access Program, as part of the Muskingum County Community Foundation, she advised students and helped them in their decision of what path they should follow upon graduating high school. This included whether the student chose to attend college or enter the workforce directly.

Being from the Zanesville area and a former student of Ohio University Zanesville, she feels connected to the campus, its students, and staff. McCarty is excited to see the campus continue to thrive and witness more student activity arise on the campus. She hopes that students participate in the events and activities, have fun while here, and receive a quality education.

“The most important thing is to get the most out of your education by getting involved while maintaining your education,” McCarty advises students.
