Washington, D.C. - Doctors Caucus Co-chairs Reps. Brad Wenstrup, D.P.M. (R-OH,) Greg Murphy, M.D. (R-NC) and Michael Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released their proposed Physician Fee Schedule rule Thursday:

"The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) proposed rule for the calendar year 2024 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule threatens Medicare beneficiaries’ access to healthcare, exacerbates vertical consolidation within the market, and will further drive patients toward higher-cost sites of service.

"Rising costs and shrinking reimbursement rates make it increasingly difficult for physician practices to offer high-quality care to patients in their communities. Worse yet, this rule will have an outsized, negative impact on rural, independent, and small practices where access to care is already extraordinarily limited.

While we continue to review the proposed rule, Congress must find a fiscally responsible and sustainable solution that adequately reflects the true costs of caring for patients today."
