Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, Rep. Brad Wenstrup, D.P.M., has formally requested information from the United States Government Accountability Office regarding U.S. government funding of the World Health Organization (WHO). The request seeks to clarify the total amount of funding, including both assessed dues and additional voluntary contributions, provided by the Federal Government to the WHO. Additionally, it aims to determine whether any processes are in place to ensure these contributions align with U.S. interests.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the WHO, an organization largely funded by American taxpayers, ceded to propaganda from the Chinese Communist Party rather than conducting truly independent inquiries into the origins of COVID-19,” stated Chairman Wenstrup. “The American people deserve to know if their tax dollars are being used to undermine American interests. By requiring the Government Accountability Office to provide a full picture of U.S. funding to the WHO and by identifying what these funds were used for, we can get the American public the answers they deserve.”

During Fiscal Year 2022, approximately 22 percent ($122 million) of WHO's budget was contributed by the United States, more than any other member nation. From FY 2012 to FY 2018, U.S. voluntary contributions averaged nearly double this amount at $254 million annually. Despite this significant financial support, there is limited information available on how these funds are utilized by WHO.
