Washington, D.C. - Congressman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) has been chosen as a conferee from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence to the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Conference Committee. In response to this appointment, Congressman Wenstrup emphasized the importance of prioritizing national defense and intelligence to protect against threats from adversaries, particularly an increasingly emboldened China.
"As we face an ever more emboldened China, it is critical that we prioritize our nation's defense and the intelligence our service men and women need to protect against threats from our adversaries. Providing for our great nation's national security is one of my most important roles as I represent the people of southern Ohio; and it is the first constitutional responsibility of the federal government," said Congressman Wenstrup.
He further highlighted the dedication and sacrifice of the men and women in uniform who work tirelessly to preserve the nation's cherished freedoms. Congressman Wenstrup emphasized the need to equip and support servicemembers in carrying out their missions effectively.
"We must never forget the valiant work our service men and women in uniform, many overseas, protecting our cherished freedoms. It's critical that we continue to provide our servicemembers with the tools, resources, and support needed to carry out their missions."
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) commended Congressman Wenstrup's appointment, recognizing his deep understanding of the military and his commitment to a strong national defense. Speaker McCarthy emphasized the significance of the NDAA Conference Committee's role in ensuring the military has the necessary resources to safeguard America.

Congressman Wenstrup's military background has undoubtedly shaped his commitment to national defense. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for over two decades, retiring with the rank of colonel. In 2005-2006, he deployed to Iraq as a combat surgeon, earning a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for his service. In recognition of his heroism, Colonel Wenstrup was awarded the Soldier's Medal in 2018. Additionally, he served as the Medical Policy Advisor for the Chief of the Army Reserve and provided medical care to patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.
