Washington, D.C. - In a move to safeguard the educational opportunities of students in southern Ohio, Rep. Brad Wenstrup has voted in support of the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act, sponsored by Rep. Mark Green (R-TN). The legislation seeks to address concerns raised by Ohioans who fear that the Biden administration's interpretation of a recent amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) could result in the cancellation of hunting safety courses and archery classes in schools.

The amendment to the ESEA, passed by Congress last year, restricts the use of federal funds for providing dangerous weapons or training in their use. However, the Biden administration's interpretation has extended the scope to include instruments such as arrows and hunting rifles. This has raised concerns among Ohioans who believe that it will lead to the loss of access to archery, hunting, and related classes for students.

"I have heard from a number of Ohioans concerned that our students are losing their access to archery, hunting, and related classes and courses because of the Biden administration's attack on these classes. Their defunding decisions are disconnected from the needs of our students, who value the safety and skills training they receive as well as an appreciation for the importance of conservation," said Rep. Wenstrup.

Rep. Wenstrup's support for the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act aims to address these concerns. By authorizing school programs that train students in archery, hunting, or other shooting sports, the legislation ensures that these programs remain eligible for federal funding. This move is seen as an important step in protecting students' access to education and extra-curricular activities related to hunting and archery.

"I'm glad that the House took power back from this lawless administration and voted to protect our students' education and extra-curricular activities," added Rep. Wenstrup.

The Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act seeks to strike a balance by recognizing the importance of safety and skills training in these activities while also promoting an appreciation for conservation. By supporting the legislation, Rep. Wenstrup has underscored his commitment to preserving the educational opportunities of Ohio students and ensuring that their interests are not undermined by misinterpretations of federal regulations.

The bill's passage in the House represents a significant victory for those who believe in the value of hunting and archery education. It not only safeguards the continuation of these programs but also sends a message that the voices of concerned citizens have been heard.

As the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act moves forward, it is expected to receive further support from lawmakers who recognize the importance of preserving these educational opportunities for students across the country. With Rep. Wenstrup's vote, Ohio takes a step towards securing the future of hunting and archery education within its schools, setting an example for others to follow.
