The Ohio House of Representatives has passed House Resolution 101, a legislative move supporting Cleveland's bid to host the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games. This announcement was made by State Representative Adam Bird from New Richmond.
Cleveland is currently one of two cities being considered by the Special Olympics Bid Evaluation Committee. Hosting these games could potentially bring an economic impact of $70 million to the region.
Representative Bird expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, stating, “I am proud to help lead this effort to bring the 2030 Special Olympics USA Games to Cleveland.” He acknowledged the contributions of communities and volunteers in Ohio who have supported special Olympic athletes over the years.
The Special Olympics USA Games are held every four years and highlight athletic achievements by bringing together athletes with intellectual disabilities from across the United States. If Cleveland is chosen, it would host an eight-day event featuring sports competitions and wellness programs for over 5,500 athletes and their families.
State Representative Darnell Brewer from Cleveland is also a joint-sponsor of this bill, which will now proceed to the Senate for further consideration.
