Volleyball Earns Senior Day Sweep over Temple

The University of Cincinnati volleyball team capped off its 2022 campaign with a Senior Day sweep of Temple on Saturday in Fifth Third Arena.  

The Bearcats finish the season with an overall record of 11-19 and AAC mark of 9-11, winning five of their final seven matches. 

Cincinnati received valuable contributions from its senior class. Senior libero Payton Frederick surpassed 1,400 career digs in her final match in the Red & Black. She recorded a match-high 19 digs to finish with 1,406 digs in her decorated career. Senior defensive specialist Kerstin Ficker added 12 digs while senior defensive specialist Maria Tobergte registered nine digs and two service aces. Cincinnati owned a +25 advantage in digs (61-36). 

Redshirt senior middle blocker Kailea Carrier put down nine kills at a .312 clip while senior right side Madison Waters added six kills.

Sophomore Abby Walker recorded a team-high 12 kills with no attacking errors on 21 attempts for a .571 hitting percentage. The Bearcats finished with a .291 hitting percentage. 

// HOW IT HAPPENED 
SET 1 | Temple hurried out to a 7-1 advantage, forcing a UC timeout. Three kills from Walker brought UC within three, 8-5. Another 4-0 scoring run, highlighted by a solo block from Shaye Eggleston, tied the set at 10 apiece. The Bearcats rattled off eight straight points to cruise to the first-set victory, 25-17. Walker tallied seven kills while Endres had 14 assists on the Bearcats' 15 kills in the opening stanza. 

SET 2 | Cincinnati jumped out to the early advantage in the second set, leading 11-5 after an Eggleston kill. Three straight points extended the Bearcats' lead to eight, 14-6. UC capitalized off several Temple errors down the stretch to claim the second stanza, 25-16. The Bearcats hit .333 with 13 kills and only two attacking errors on 33 attempts. 

SET 3 | With Ficker behind the service line, the Bearcats got out to a 4-0 start in the third set. Temple fought its way back to tie up the set at eight apiece. The two teams continued to trade points until Carly Glendinning recorded a solo block and kill to put UC up by two, 18-16. The Bearcats held on to win the frame, 25-22, and match, 3-0.
