State Representatives Adam Bird and Kevin Ritter have announced the passage of House Bill 114 by the Ohio House of Representatives. The bill aims to standardize age requirements for kindergarten admission across the state.

"H.B. 114 brings common sense and consistency across the state for the kindergarten enrollment process," stated Representative Bird.

Representative Ritter explained, "Current state law states that districts must choose August 1st or September 30th as the deadline by which an incoming kindergartener must be five years of age. This dual standard has led to confusion and frustration especially for families moving from one district to another. I am pleased we were able to provide clarity on the issue."

The proposed legislation mandates that public schools admit children into kindergarten if they turn five years old on or before September 30th of the upcoming school year, thereby creating uniformity in enrollment procedures statewide.

House Bill 114 will now proceed to the Senate for further consideration.
