On May 1, 2024, Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) requested access to Dr. Anthony Fauci’s personal email accounts and cellphone records. This request follows new evidence suggesting that Dr. Fauci may have used his personal email account for official government communications during the COVID-19 pandemic.
An email from Dr. Fauci’s Senior Advisor, Dr. David Morens, to EcoHealth Alliance, Inc. President Dr. Peter Daszak indicated potential misuse of personal emails for official business. Dr. Morens wrote, “I can either send stuff to Tony on his private gmail or hand it to him at work…He is too smart to let colleagues send him stuff that could cause trouble.” Another email from Dr. Morens mentioned a “secret back channel” used to communicate with Dr. Fauci outside public scrutiny.
When questioned about using personal emails to evade the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Dr. Morens testified, “I may have.” This evidence raises concerns about public health officials concealing information and behaving unaccountably.
Last week, the Select Subcommittee held a hearing where they addressed allegations against Dr. Morens for undermining U.S. government operations, possibly lying to Congress, deleting federal COVID-19 records, and using his personal email account to evade FOIA requirements.
Given that Dr. Morens was under the leadership of Dr. Fauci at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), there are concerns that Dr. Fauci might have been aware of or involved in these activities.
Chairman Wenstrup has now requested access to all documents and communications related to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, EcoHealth Alliance, and the origins of COVID-19 contained in Dr. Fauci’s personal email and cellphone records.
