UC women's team place ninth overall with 265 points
Seniors Maddie Walker and Rylee Penn recorded top-25 finishes at the Bradley Pink Classic on Friday in Peoria, Illinois.
"I am so impressed with the way the ladies raced today," women's coach Sarah Anderson said. "I told them after Louisville, we are so close to that next step as a team and right before the race today, I told them to prove it to their teammates and prove it to me. Huge personal records for both Maddie and Rylee. Incredible leaders an incredible racers."
Walker was the first Bearcat to cross the finish line at the Newman Golf Course. The reigning AAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week dominated the 6K course, placing 18th overall with a time of 20:44.1. Walker has now been the team's top scorer in every race this season.
Penn arguably had her best race of the season, finishing 21st out of 306 student-athletes. She crossed the line with a personal-best time of 20:50.4. It marked the second time this season the team had two top-25 finishers in a race.
Freshmen standouts Sarah Madix and Gwen Stare were the next Bearcats to complete the race. Madix finished with a time of 21:40.1 for 62nd overall and Stare placed 87th with a time of 21:58.6.
Senior Carmela Henning rounded out UC's scorers, placing 94th with a time of 21:58.2.
"All the women stepped up big time today, and I am so proud to coach this group of women," Anderson said. "Back to the drawing board, two more weeks to tune up for the big dance"
The women's team placed ninth overall, scoring 265 points. Miami's (OH) Carmen Riano won the individual race with a time of 19:54.2 and Northwestern won the women's red 6K with 68 points.

The Bearcats will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma for their last appearance in the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 28. Cincinnati will look to build off last year's success at the meet where the women's team placed second overall and the men placed third.
