LPD Investigation: Skimmers Found at Local Gas Station

3

The Loveland Police Department (LPD) is investigating credit card skimmers found at a local gas station.

On April 29, a citizen contacted LPD regarding fraudulent charges that she believed may have occurred at Mobil, 106 W. Loveland Ave. An officer was dispatched to the gas station, where management allowed the pumps to be inspected for tampering.

Upon inspection, internal skimmers were found on two gas pumps. The skimmers may have been installed for approximately one week — possibly longer. LPD contacted the United States Secret Service (USSS) was contacted, who specializes in wire and technological fraud. USSS responded on scene and collected the skimmer devices for their investigation.

If you feel you have been impacted by the skimmers placed at the Mobil gas station, please contact Officer Michael Wright Loveland Police Department at (513) 677-7000.

Tips from LPD:

  • Due to their placement, internal skimmers are much harder to detect than external skimmers.
  • It's good practice to inspect security seals on gas pumps to make sure they are still intact.
  • If the seals are broken, contact a store attendant.
  • In addition, it's good practice to regularly monitor your credit/debit card statements daily to check for fraudulent charges.
